For the purposes of GDPR and UK GDPR, TESOL Ministry is the data controller of the personal information described here.

• Account information you provide when you sign up: name, email address, and (if you use Google sign-in) the basic profile information Google returns to us.
• Organization information if you join or are enrolled in a company or cohort (e.g. company name, role).
• Learning activity: lessons opened, activities completed, quiz answers, streaks, badges, and progress toward mastery. This is what makes progress tracking, missed-word review, and leaderboards work.
• Support and feedback you send us by email or via feedback forms.
• Technical information automatically collected when you use the site: IP address, browser type, device type, pages viewed, and error diagnostics. We use this to keep the site secure and working.

We do not knowingly collect payment card details on our servers. If we introduce paid subscriptions, payments will be handled by a PCI- compliant payment processor and this policy will be updated to name them.

• Provide the lessons, activities, and progress features you sign up for.
• Save your progress so you can resume where you left off across devices.
• Show tutors, cohort administrators, and organization admins the progress of learners in their own cohort or company — not other organizations' learners.
• Send transactional messages (account confirmations, security alerts).
• Respond to your support requests and feedback.
• Detect abuse, prevent fraud, and secure the service.
• Improve the curriculum and site experience in aggregate.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, we rely on the following lawful bases:

• Contract — to create your account and deliver the lessons and features you request.
• Legitimate interests — to keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and improve the curriculum. We balance these interests against your rights.
• Consent — where required, for example for optional cookies or optional communications. You can withdraw consent at any time.
• Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose information to meet a legal requirement.

We only share personal information with vendors that help us run the service, under written contracts requiring appropriate safeguards. Current subprocessors:

• Lovable Cloud (Supabase) — authentication, database, and file storage for accounts and learning progress.
• Google — Google Sign-In (if you choose it), the Google Translate widget (if you use it to translate the site), and website analytics.

We may also disclose information when required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the safety and rights of users and the public. If TESOL Ministry is ever involved in a merger, acquisition, or transfer of assets, we will notify users before their personal information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Our servers and subprocessors may process personal information in the United States and other countries. Where personal information is transferred from the EEA, UK, or Switzerland to a country without an adequacy decision, we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK Addendum where applicable) as offered by our subprocessors.

We keep account and learning data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we must keep records to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements. Aggregated, non-identifying analytics may be retained longer.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate information.
• Delete your account and associated personal information.
• Export your information in a portable format.
• Object to or restrict certain processing.
• Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
• Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

California residents (CCPA/CPRA): you have the right to know what we collect, to delete it, to correct it, to opt out of any sale or sharing (we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by California law), and to be free from retaliation for exercising these rights. Contact us at the address above to make a request; we may need to verify your identity before responding.

Canadian residents (PIPEDA): you may request access to and correction of your personal information, and you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

To exercise any right, email connect@tesolministry.org. We respond within the timeframes required by applicable law (generally within 30 days for GDPR requests, 45 days for CCPA requests).

English for Emergencies is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 in a manner that would violate the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it. For users in the EEA/UK, we rely on the higher of local age-of-consent thresholds where applicable.

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, secure the site, and measure how the site is used. Analytics cookies help us understand which lessons and activities are working. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling essential cookies may prevent parts of the site from working.

We use industry-standard safeguards including transport encryption (HTTPS), hashed credentials, access controls, and vendor security reviews. No online service can be guaranteed 100% secure — if you have a security concern, please email us immediately.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced on the site or by email before they take effect. The "Effective date" above will reflect the most recent revision.
